Serving with Style
The world serves beauty but what if beauty served the world? As I was on a date with myself in Starbucks I looked in front of me and there was a beautiful display of coffee cups. The advertisement said, “serving with style.” I was intrigued with this statement for multiple reasons.
What tends to be popular these days is fashion, makeup, and hairstyles. Any way to decorate and pose yourself to be the best you can be. What’s truly neglected is beauty on the inside.
Yes, you might be thinking this is such a cliche, we must be beautiful on the inside, but truly it's starting to feel a bit lonely in this world.
Lonely? What do you mean? I ran into this young girl last weekend who I met 2 years ago, she was so bold and confident (it made me actually quite envious). This year, fear was eating her confidence. It killed me, seeing that she was hiding behind insecurity and she was meant to be more. I had to say something. I expressed to her who she is in God, a daughter of the most high and that she has value. I told this mystery girl to hold onto her boldness and don’t let anyone take that away from her. Us girls think we are all alone fighting each other, trying to prove we are worth the attention but what if we served one another instead. Expressing to each other that we are all valuable.
As I meet new people and begin to unfold new relationships/friendships, theres a few things missing in this world of communication. The sentence we dearly all have got so use to, “how are you.” The concern of oneself has made the heart sick, which makes the individual useless in any type of relationship. People are so worried with there problems that they neglect the one thing, that they are the problem.
Americans spent a whopping $33.3 billion on cosmetics and other beauty products in 2010, up 6% from 2009, according to the Commerce Department. Girls aged eight to 12 spend more than $40 million a month on beauty products, while those aged 13 to 17 spend more than $100 million a month, the NPD Group found. These statistics are not to condemn the women ( I’m one of them) it’s to show that demand of covering up is growing excessively and not growing within, is diminishing.
I have this disgusting passion to break this vicious cycle of narcissism. Now, by no means am I saying that I don’t enjoy fashion, makeup or hairstyles. I would be a hypocrite if you were to see how I dress on a daily basis (hence the name of the blog, serving with style). What I am saying is don’t let that be the only thing that is shown. Truly, it gets boring, that the only depth you have is your makeup bag. What if girls didn’t just care with how many followers they got on Instagram or likes on Facebook but how many people inspire to be like you because you actually might live outside of the mirror you look at each day?
Is it all possible to serve with style? To have the beautiful serve the world instead the world serve beauty? This will be my step into an adventurous beginning. What beauty should really be. More than yourself. Let’s love a little more and serve with style.
